The Engagement

It was April 14th, 2001 the day before easter. It was a warm day spring evening and Vince took me to my favorite park in Stroudsburg PA, Glen Park. We took one of our favorite walks in the back woods. Glen park is sort of a magical place with running hills, a babbling brook and tons of trees. We were walking along and it was a very pretty site. I saw something brown on a tree and went in on a closer look and saw a tiny brown bat. It was very unusual and I have never seen a bat during the day before or on a tree. (I looked up what bat's symbolize: one site said the symbolize: health, long life, prosperity, love, The bat is a symbol of the challenge to let go of the old and create the new.. In some cultures they are considered negative, but I will agree with the Chinese that the bat symbolized good fortune and great happiness It also happens to be vin's aol name bats...) Anyways we continued our walk climbing up hills and ducking overheads of trees. I remember thinking how beautiful it was. The water had a very lapping sound to it and I just felt so happy to be there with Vince. He held me from behind with one arm and starting telling me how much he really really loved me. He kept repeating it and hugging me tighter with that one hand, before long I knew that he had turned me around and bended down on one knee. In his hand he had the ring and he asked me to marry him. I told him yes and kissed him. Moments later some canadian geese flew overhead and squaked. (I'm not making anything up ;) As we walked back to the car the sun was setting and I never felt happier.
